Place with purpose

A small region with a fixed total usually has fewer possible domino values than a broad greater-than or less-than condition.
Dominoes such as 4–4 or 6–6 are especially valuable in equal-value regions and exact even totals.
Before chasing numbers, identify cells that can only be covered horizontally or vertically because of the board’s outline.
If a region clearly needs a high or low pip count, avoid spending the only matching domino somewhere flexible.
One half of a domino may satisfy one region while its other half constrains another. Consider both ends before placing it.
Empty or loosely constrained cells are useful late in the solve because they can absorb dominoes that no longer fit elsewhere.
