Shape the grid
Patches is a clean little geometry puzzle: every clue controls one region, and every cell must belong to exactly one solved patch.
A numbered clue limits the region size immediately, which often makes its possible placements easy to test.
A square clue, tall rectangle, or wide rectangle usually removes several impossible placements before size is considered.
If two clues sit near each other, solve the tighter one first and let its border reduce the second clue’s options.
Clues marked as any shape are flexible. They are often easiest after the surrounding fixed shapes are placed.
